Why do we light candles at Christmas?

Candles can give us all a spiritual feeling and what better time to use candles then at Christmas time.

There is great history to the use of candles as more than just an instrument of illumination. Candles are specifically linked to religion and are used as a symbol of light. Christians believe candlelight represents Jesus who is the light of the world and who guides us from all the darkness of the world. The light signifies the path of life. The candle represents spirituality, devotion, faith, longing, and the life devoted to a single, generally spiritual passion or aspiration.

Candles used at Christmas time represents the star of Bethlehem and Jesus as 'the Light of the World'. Before electric lights were invented, candles were often (dangerously) used on Christmas trees to celebrate the season.

In more modern times, Carols by Candlelight is the most common time when candles are used at Christmas time.
